"Don't take clothing too seriously."
Social Suicide is not just the product of a single idea—there are many facets fueling this company’s mission.
As a young company, there is the desire to be a revolutionary force in the future of fashion. While this is a highly sought after ideal, those at Social Suicide realize that starting small—and simple—is the best way to push “radical” thinking.
Although Social Suicide embraces simplicity, they are not simple! It is the company's hope that by focusing on the complexities of art through different media, they can support the individual artist. My Social Suicide prefers to take a grassroots approach: take an idea, start small, and give power to the people to (hopefully) ignite innovation on a broader scale.
Starting “small”: Social Suicide is the collaborative effort of Jessika and Veronika Tornblom Olsen, twin sisters who have always had a patchwork of ideas they wanted to share with the world. Using clothing as their medium, they focus on making pieces as handmade as possible. All designs start from hand-drawn sketches, then the drawings are screen printed by hand onto American Apparel clothing. Each design is a mix of sassy wordplay, novel ideas, and strong aesthetics that can not be defined easily; thus the mission statement is "Don't take clothing too seriously."
